You can safely install the LuxHeat cable with a heated floor membrane by following these steps:

1. Plan the layout of your cable and prepare the floor. Ensure the floor is dry, level, and free of dirt or debris.
2. Lay out the uncoupling membrane across the entire floor and cut to fit odd-shaped areas. Install the membrane on the subfloor using thinset.
3. Perform a test on the cable prior to installation as per the installation manual, then connect the installation monitor.
4. Clip the cable into the heat membrane, laying it back and forth in runs 3 studs/3” apart. The cable runs should not cross or be closer than 2” apart at any point.
5. Remove the installation monitor and perform another test.
6. Completely cover the heated floor wire and membrane using thinset or a self-leveling compound.
7. Install your floor covering and perform a final test to ensure no damage has occurred to the cable.

Installing your LuxHeat cable with Fixing Strips is easy:

1. Start by planning the layout of your cable and prepare your floor. The subfloor must be dry, level, smooth, and structurally sound; it must also be inspected carefully to ensure it is clean and clear of sharp edges, nails, and any other objects that could damage the heating wire.
2. Attach the fixing strips to the subfloor.
3. Test the cable prior to installation as per the installation instructions.
4. Connect the installation monitor to the cable to alert you of any damage to the floor heating wire during installation.
5. Lace the heating wire back and forth, attaching it to the fixing strips every 3 inches. The cable runs should not ever cross itself or be closer than 2” apart.
6. Once you have finished lacing the cable, remove the monitor and perform another test before covering the system in screed.
7. Cover the system using thin set or a self-levelling underlayment, ensuring that all the heating wires are completely covered.
8. Install your floor covering and perform a final test.
9. Install your thermostat. Allow the floor time to fully cure before energizing the system.

What spacing should I use for an electric floor heating cable?

Our cable sizes are calculated based on spacing the heating elements 3” apart, which provides the industry standard watt density of 12 watts/sqft, and provides a great balance between heat distribution and energy efficiency. For a higher heat output, you can alternate 2” and 3” spacing which provides the maximum approved watt density of 15 watt/sqft. When a lower watt density is required, you can alternate 3” and 4” spacing, but this will result in a lower overall heat output.
